Welcome To Sweet Pea Creationz
Chainmaille, also known as chain maille or chain mail or even chainmail, is defined by Merriam-Webster as flexible armor of interlocked rings. Chainmaille jewelry is created from interlocked rings called jump rings. How those rings are connected to each other determines the look of the finished jewelry. The patterns are called weaves and there are hundreds of different weaves with more being designed all the time. Whenever possible, I make my own jump rings. My favorite metals are bright aluminum, silver and copper. I start with a spool of wire and wind it into coils of different inner diameters. These coils are then cut using a special tool which produces the jump rings. The look of any weave can be varied by using different gauge wire and/or different sized rings. I also like to use colored wire, gemstones, glass beads (especially lampwork beads). I do not solder my rings closed. There really is no need for that. If the proper ring size is used and the proper ring closing technique is used, the jewelry will stand up to normal wear and tear as well as, if not better than, most other forms of jewelry. My goal is to offer you unique, high quality handcrafted jewelry. Please browse my shop, come to one of my shows, or visit me at the Heritage Crafters' Gallery in the Lynchburg Community Market. Each venue offers different pieces. Custom orders are accepted as well.
